Passion Remembers Students, Offers Scholarships

Lea Kraemer (L), Sarah Doelker

On Friday night, October 1, an accident involving a car carrying five college students and an ambulance claimed the lives of two students from Presbyterian College.  Sarah Doelker and Lea Kraemer had arrived at the small South Carolina school at the start of the fall semester from Germany for a one-year foreign exchange program.

Both girls were followers of Jesus and involved in their local churches back home in Germany.  On the evening before the accident, in an attempt to beat the October 1 price increase, Sarah Doelker had registered she and Lea for Passion 2011 (January 1-4 in Atlanta).  Though we did not know Sarah and Lea, our hearts were broken once news of their deaths reached us.  We are asking you to join us in praying for their families and all who loved them.

As a way of remembering Sarah and Lea (and in a small way fulfilling their desire to join with thousands of students from around the world for Passion 2011) we are setting up a Scholarship Fund in their names for this year’s gathering.

Starting today, up to 10 scholarships for Passion 2011 are available for those who qualify.  The scholarships honoring Sarah and Lea are open to anyone 18-25 (including high school seniors) who have lost an immediate family member during the 2010 year and need financial assistance to attend Passion 2011 in Atlanta or Fort Worth.

To apply, contact Shannon at shannon.scott@268generation.com and share a brief account of your story.  You will receive a reply from Passion Conferences confirming we have received your application and those awarded scholarships will be notified by email in a timely manner.

Please feel free to pass this opportunity to any students who might qualify and please join us in lifting up the Doelker and Kraemer families and the Presbyterian College community in your thoughts and prayers.

You guys are amazing to think of offering scholarships to other broken hearted young people in need.May those who receive them to go to 2011 be touched by the Wounded Healer .

Thank you so much for offering these scholarships! Presbyterian College, a small college in SC, was shaken by the traumatic deaths of these two young ladies, international students from Germany. Many of us have been praying for their families and for the three other students injured in the crash (especially for the driver). Now we will also pray for the Lord to draw the students He wants to attend Passion 2011 through these scholarships honoring Lea and Sarah. Looking forward to seeing what God will do through this!!

How terrible! At least we know they’re in heaven now, singing with the angels.
Thanks to Passion for setting up the scholarship fund. Hopefully many students’ lives are touched by this tragedy, and students realize that it’s critical that they have relationship with Christ, because you never know when the end may come. Can’t wait for Passion 2011!!

Louie, or to whom it may concern,

I love what the Passion movement is doing and it has been a huge part of my life, and my friends’ as well. I want to thank you for all you guys over at Passion do to better the kingdom of God. I have a huge request and a huge favor to ask of you guys. I have a friend that I have been very close with since grade school, and she does not know much about Jesus. I have invested and invited several times, and she has attended Browns Bridge Community Church with me on many occasions. Since sophomore year in high school, tumors have shown up, been removed, shown up been removed, and it has been an awful ride for her. I am afraid that one of those tumors will not be able to be removed, and time will be very vital. She is now a student at Georgia Southern, and is living a lifestyle neither you (whoever is reading this) or I would be envious of. She has come to me, more than once, telling me, “partying only does so much,” “I’m tired of living like this,” “This is getting old,” “Pray for me,” “I don’t know what to do anymore.” I have told her I want her to come to a conference with me in January, and I need yall’s help. If you guys could me a ticket for her, and a hotel, since money is very tight right now in this economy, I would be so grateful, if not please pray for Alex, and what is going on in her life, and pray for me, so that I could be a steward towards her. Thank You.
