Hands Across The World

It’s Monday across the thousands of islands that make up The Philippines and somewhere a student is still proudly rocking their Passion Manila/Passion HK wristband, praying and believing for great things to come in Hong Kong five days from now.  And they are not alone.

Together, they’re getting random stares, puzzled looks, inquisitive questions and shrugged-shoulder responses on the bus, in class, at the store, around the house and at work.  Yet they are standing firm, forming a beautiful link in a generation that spans the globe.  (That’s not to say you have to be a wristband wearer to be a part of the Jesus-generation that’s rising up on every continent…just that a few crazy Filipinos are!)

The wristband is a simple thing, yet a powerful reminder of life-shaping days in God’s presence and, as is the case with the World Tour, a visible encouragement  to pray for the students ahead.  And we’re not just talking about Manila.  This week, during a quick pit-stop in Atlanta, I met a girl still going strong with her wristband from Passion Atlanta!!  (Hello…that’s five months and counting…mind you, she said she was down to layer three…which makes me wonder, is there a layer four?)  I’m sure someone from the WT stops in Kiev,  London and Tokyo is doing the same…and know there are more who have a wristband in their journal, tacked to the wall, taped to the bathroom mirror, hanging in their car, and on and on….

Theirs are the hands across the world, hands united by a common Savior…hands outstretched to love the world in Jesus’ name.

And speaking of Manila, thank you to the university student who wrote to us back in 2001 after watching the Passion OneDay DVD.  Your email was one of the first to ever reach us from outside the USA and in it you shared how moved you were at seeing your generation gathered for His fame.  And then you did it…you asked if we would ever  consider hosting a Passion gathering in The Philippines!  Our team will never forget reading your email together…stunned that ripples from our little movement had reached your shores and thrilled about the prospect of uniting university students across the world.  We just looked at each other in amazement…and wondered if that could ever happen…and what it would look like to be with thousands of Pinoy Believers going for God.

Well, now we know.  So, wherever you are, thank you for your vision and for helping make Passion Manila possible not once, but twice!  And, thank you, Manila, for praying for Hong Kong…and thank you Atlanta, Kyiv, London, Tokyo and every city/student before who has leaned into this journey with us.

Hong Kong, you’re next!  We are expecting great things as your hands join the wave.  If you haven’t already made plans to be there, get your tickets today!  Passion Hong Kong.  Saturday, June 5. HK Convention Centre.  Passion HK info and tickets here.

A esas senoras o chicas.

From those Filipino university students writing to you, the Passion team coming to Manila, and me and the thousands of our generation who have been part of Passion Manila – God really works in the most awesome ways. I have never felt more blessed. :)

I have my wristband from Passion::DC and my wristband from this past January hanging in my bedroom, next to my computer. I wanted to keep my wristband from January on until the end of the semester, but I realized that after Spring Break, it didn’t have a couple more months of wear-ability.

I waited for a long time before the perfect time to share what PassionManila has done in influencing my life for God. I intentionally waited for more than a year so that I can show the results of your impact in my life. I attended PassionManila 2008 and it was my Freedom Day. PassionManila 2010 is my Breakthough Day. Let me share my PassionManila experience through my blog, please click the direct link:

    Carry on, Passion team!
May God enlarge your vision more so you could reach more.
Our vision will limit us, so let it be unlimited!

Because you have laid down your lives for the cause of Jesus, these hands were birthed :)

I Praise the Name Of JESUS! May His glory continue to shine as Louie Giglio, Chris Tomlin, Kristian Stanfil and the whole Passion2010 share God’s greatness and love in the Philippines. This night is so remarkable, that Jesus’ name was lifted high above all else. We’re blessed to hear the message that Louie Giglio shared. We are in the story of God. I AM NOT but I KNOW I AM. I’m blessed to see Louie Giglio and Chris Tomlin face to face (south gate) and was able to talk to them. I have 3 books of Louie Giglio and I was able to ask for an authograph. I’m so thankful, best birthday gift! Thanks Louie Giglio. Oh! I forgot to tell you something . . . Nice shark fishing story with Andy Stanley. God Bless.

  13. Abby Says:

On my way to the airport en route to Vancouver, my friend and I saw a girl on the bus with her Hong Kong wristband still on. Love it!! So awesome to see our generation united in praying for the awakening of hearts across the globe.

    Praying for you Hong Kong!!

  14. Priscilla Says:

Love, love, love this. Btw, I still have my Passion Sydney 08 wristband in my keepsake drawer :)

  15. Daniel Says:

    Mr. Giglio!
Your passion conference was amazing… it was so blessing to me and it inspired me to do what God had planned, and I felt as though i was blocking the way that God had for me. But through the conference which i attended in London, it has changed me a lot. thank you so much!

It is really good to see all these people in all these countries, have come to faith despite their culture of islam and buddhist. I was surprised at how many people were there at Tokyo, less than 10% of Japan’s population is christian, but there were so many people! god has blessed them all!

  16. Chae Says:

When you shared the 2010 Passion world tour dates at a PCC service earlier this year at GACS and told us to choose at least one place to pray for, Hong Kong was the one for me. I don’t know why, but China and Hong Kong burdened me the most.

All that God does in and through the Passion World Tour is amazing, but I am especially excited and expectant for Hong Kong.

Just tonight I was amazed at how faithful God was in carrying out my small group. Now, speak about God carrying out the Passion World Tour. Gosh, God, you do all things well.

    Miss you guys!

    Atlanta, GA. Chae

  17. Chae Says:

I am so thankful for that one Manila university student that asked you guys to come to his/her city. And i’m so glad that you guys answered that call and allowed God to show his greatness by making what is now the passion world tour possible!

wow. so thankful for that! who knew what that one student’s request would start!

  18. Erma Says:

I can relate to those who’ve been looked at with much curiosity for wearing a wristband looking so much like the one given by hospitals..

Still wearing it and praying for tomorrow’s worship rally at HK!

May God again use the Passion Team to put ablaze the hearts of those who’ll be watching. Continue making Our God famous!

    - Erma Selga, Manila

  19. Crystal Te Says:

Hong Kong, we are praying for you!!! :)

  20. Teri Says:

How Exciting!! How blessed you and the worship leaders are to be part of something so wonderful.
I wonder what is the Christian culture like there? ie in the streets where the concert-goers live…?

  21. mia Says:

I had my wristband tacked to my wall in the office… :D

..everyday reminding me that I am not just an analyst who happened to be a Christian rather a Christian who happened to be an analyst.

..everyday reminding me that I had been part of the historical Passion World Tour

    ..everyday reminding me that “im-in-the-bar-scene”

P.S. Last week a watched a late night show and I was so surprised to see one guitarist of the band wearing the WorldTour wristband. Wohoo! Making Jesus famous anywhere anytime. :D

  22. Darlene Denise Says:

Oh! i was wearing the wristband from work and even when I was a bridesmaid for a friend’s wedding =)

  23. Trisha Says:

Yup wore it at work! And boy how it generated much inquiries. It became an open door to share my faith to my workmates :) Great idea Passion ;)
