Futuristic Tokyo!

Some crazy costume event, you ask? No, just a normal day out and about in Shibuya and Harajuku, two of Tokyo’s vibrant (if not slightly bizarre) areas and two of the most culture-forward places on earth.  The main Shibuya intersection pictured above is said to be one of the busiest in the world, a place where thousands cross the street(s) every time the lights change.

“Oh, you can find a few kids like this in Tokyo,” you ask?  Nope. Not a few, but tens of thousands fill the streets at all times (hundreds of thousands at peak times), where the emphasis is squarely on “the look” you’re rocking and the “vibe” you’re sporting.  In a pretty short period of time you can see it all, and though everyone seems to want to break the mold, after a few minutes no one seems to stand out anymore.

But, if you dig youth culture (and love young people) it’s the place you want to be…and the place you can’t help but ask, “How will the gospel come to them?  Who is God going to use to bridge the gap and bring awakening here?”  I certainly don’t have the answers, but I believe the time is now.  Tokyo’s youth await…and I think it won’t take much to turn the tide and start a revolution.

For our team there’s no place we’d rather be tonight…

Peace out and stay tuned…

Eagerly awaiting to hear how it went! After being in Tokyo 2 summers ago I find these pictures above making me home sick! I LOVE THE JAPANESE PEOPLE! I love the craziness of Shibuya and the calmness of Yoyogi park. I prayed last night for Buddy and all the IMB M’s there that have been faithfully serving and sharing the gospel for years. I praise the Lord for how He has been breaking down walls and strongholds among the younger generation….and for all homes churches that have started. I also prayed for all the high school and college students that will be heading to Japan this summer to help disciple. Oh how those Sunday services in the park draw others in! I pray that last night helped paved the way a little or A LOT more. Give us every detail!!!!!!!! I can’t wait to hear!!!!!

I have to admit, for a little country girl from Kentucky these pictures don’t even look real… but that just makes the whole idea of Who God is and what He can do in ANY culture all the more awesome! I have had the greatest expectancy with you all about this night (technicaly morning here :), and in faith I believe that you are absolutely right Louie: “Tokyo’s youth await… and it won’t take much to turn the tide and start a revolution”! As Steve Fee so wonderfully said during Sacred Revolution, “Every revolution needs a revolutionary: and HIS NAME IS JESUS!”

Can you please pass this link to Chris Tomlin in case he can use this poem for a lyric to any song he might be composing. (Sorry for leaving it here but am not sure where else to send to him.)

Thank you for passing it on and thank you for all the work you are doing for the glory of God.
