16 Day Prayer Journey To Passion 2010 – Day 11

Day 11.  Furious rest.

On our last sabbath before 2010 (Sunday is the most widely accepted day of rest among Believers around the world) it is good to remember that He is the Originator and Sustainer of all things.  Our God made all that we see from nothing, creating our world and everything in it by the Word of His mouth.  To forget the sabbath is to fall prey to the lie that says it’s all up to us to control the outcomes of our lives and the world around us.  Without sabbath rest, pausing to remember that He is God and we are not, we find ourselves crushed under the weight of managing our days alone.

So together we pray…

Father, today, we pause as You have instructed us to do…and we remember that You are the author of all that exists.  You formed us and our world without asking for input, advice or assistance.  You are self-sufficient in every way to do everything You desire to do.  You do not tire, sleep, stress or quit.  Your power is unending, Your wisdom unfathomable, Your purposes unstoppable.

Thank You for inviting us into Your story.  Though You don’t need anything, You have chosen to include us in Your plans.  We will give You all we’ve got, resting in the truth that as we work You are accomplishing things that last forever.

We pray especially for the Passion Staff today, knowing they are overwhelmed with all that has to be done before Passion 2010 begins.  Fill them with the awareness of Your powerful Spirit within, a dependence on the life of Jesus to do what they cannot do, and the knowledge that their efforts in Your name are like precious gold that will never fade away.  Cover and protect each one and their families…In Jesus’ name.  Amen.

Now I rejoice in what was suffered for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church. I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness—the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me.
Colossians 1:24-29

Louie, I really appreciated your prayer today. I have to say though, that although Sunday may be the widely accepted Sabbath it is not the one I keep. I choose to keep the Biblical Sabbath, the seventh day, Sabbath. It may not be well known today in the Christian church, but, as I have seen more articles of late relating to the importance of the Sabbath I feel that I should in the very least point it out to others. You are right on in that God has given us a day to reflect on Him exclusively. To place the cares and burdens of this life to the side so as to better focus on Him. God as our Creator, Deliverer, Savior. What better day to honor Him as the Creator, or I like the name you used, Originator, than on the day that He Himself set aside and made Holy, the one He gave us at Creation (before sin). I find it an honor to be able to give Him a day, even though I know in the end it was for me. He knew I needed it. WE need it. “Sabbath was made for man…”(Mk 2:27). God did not need to rest after Creation. But, did so for our sakes; knowing that we would need a day pause and see our need FOR HIM, every week. Yes, it is important to have DAILY time with Him too. Daily devotion has its place, but, the Sabbath is a special time. I find it odd that many people consider it to be a burden. I look forward to it every Friday (Friday sundown to Sabbath [Sat.] sundown). May it be that we all draw closer to Him that gives us life, energy and love.

My prayers have been and continue to be with you and all those preparing for Passion 2010. May God sustain you. I pray for those students still struggling to find a way to be there, that God will open doors for you. I pray for those who are able to come that no matter where your walk is currently, that your experience will deepen your resolve to walk in His ways, in His will for you daily, wherever He may take you. Be that near home or to places farther away from the familiar. God Bless. Lisa

P.S. I feel I need to add one more thing, Louie, “widely accepted” ≠ (necessarily) correct. See history for examples…

Praying that God will multiply the hours of rest and productivity in the days remaining through “crunchtime” and last-minute details…
