Fabulous Finish In Oz

If you have to bring an unforgettable, multi-lap, life-altering, generation-linking global journey to a close, Sydney is definitely a pretty fine place to finish.  Not only is it a stunningly beautiful city, but the people are as warm as you will find anywhere in the world.  That’s saying quite a lot, given the amazing friends we have met on the way (notice even the Brazilians got into the Sydney act), but there is a warm and inviting spirit within the Australian culture.  Add to that, we are on the bottom of the planet, and while isolated may be too strong a word, there is certainly the sense that you are somewhere far away when you are here.  That may be because it’s an island-nation, and you’re not connected to any other country.  But whatever the case, you feel like you have bridged a gap when God connects you with what He’s doing here, and it was our privilege to bring the Passion Movement to the land of Oz.

Sooner or later we all knew this tour was going to come to a close, but I’m finding it a little difficult to disconnect from the thought that we will soon be trudging through another airport, absorbing another way of life, quickly schooling on the basics of another language and asking once again, “How much is this in dollars?”  And it’s sad to think that we’re not going to hear that universal roar for the line, “Jesus Is Alive!” anytime soon.  That’s not to say we’re not excited about getting back to the ATL, we totally are.  And soon we will begin putting the foundation stones of the new church plant in place, as well as working on a few late-spring ‘09 WT dates and the upcoming US gathering–Passion 2010.  But it’s bittersweet, just like the symphonic piece we opened most nights with along the way. Speaking of getting home, Shelley and I are still in Sydney…her back has gone out in a major way, and until things improve, 20 hours of flying is not an option.  Please pray!

Fortunately, for all of you who have followed this incredible trek and loved the images, we are working on a photo-essay book that will tell the story through Jeremy’s creative lens.  Combined with my take on the places and events, we hope this coffee-table sized work captures both the voice of each city and the generation that God is raising up for His fame.  “Awakening,” will be available after the first of the year and details will be available soon so you can pre-order yours and make sure it lands on your door in KL, Johannesburg, Vancouver or any other destination on earth.  I think it’s going to tell a beautiful story, so spread the word to anyone you know you has joined us!  More to come on this.

As we make the final trip home and wrap up the details of the tour, we are trusting God for the last chunk of resources needed to bring the balance to zero.  We are close, and know God is able.  You have been so generous since we first launched this idea at Passion 07 (the Aussies gave $27,000 US–and that does not include coins which are still being counted and probably total several thousand more!), but if you feel so led to help us you can click the GIVE button on the 268generation.com main page and help us to the finish.

For now, we are united, joined across borders, time zones, cultures and oceans.  That is a powerful thing, the work of the Spirit of our great God.  Never forget, that same Spirit–the One who raised Christ from the dead–is in you, in Christ.  Think big.  Believe for more.  Never settle.  We have seen a miracle and been a part of one together.  And the best is yet to come.

Sydney love to all,

Louie

May the Lord give one tender touch to your back Shelley that you may be healed and revived with supernatural strength and energy in His wonderful name.! Look forward to the Awakening book, its going to be amazing especially with all the lovely happy faces we have seen throughout the world. God is good and will certainly provide for the last requirements – wish I could be at the opening of the new church too ( abit far….) :)
There is nothing like Your love oh Lord, may we continue to reach out to others so they may know You as You live in us….be blessed to all throughout the globe……you are loved by the most High God :>)

  2. Sarah Says:

We gave $27000 ???!!! No way! God is so good! I’m so glad we had the chance to give back to the students of Kiev, like every other city before us.

Still on a high, still wearing my arm band, and still praising Jesus for what he has done!

May I suggest a live CD of the world tour – maybe one song from each city? I for one would love to hear the voices of my fellow students around the world :-)

  3. Jacoline Says:

Still it feels weird to know that the world tour is over. Something that I have been thinking and praying about for the past year. But like I said in a blogpost before: the real Passion starts after Passion, so will continue to pray for these countries.

This morning, I tuned into a Scottish radiostation (online) with a friend of London and a friend of Australia. Fiona, Gail and I requested “God of this city” earlier that week but because the radiostation didn’t have the song they played another one instead. This morning they finally played it. It was amazing to hear the song being played on the radio. The lyrics are strong but the story behind it is even stronger. I e-mailed the radiostation back and told them the story then I ended on how much I think this song has impacted me over the past year. Going to different cities in Europe and hearing this song been sung, was just incredible to me…It must have been even more amazing for you guys, to go to the whole world!
I believe that greater things are happening and that more big things are coming your and our way. I’m praying for that.

Praying for Shelley, I hope her back heals quickly so you will be able to fly home and rest in the surroundings of your home.

As for a suggestion of spring WT dates ‘09….you’ll probably know what my suggestion will be ;-) Hahaha… so won’t name it..

    Never settle. Amen!

PS: Even though the WT is “over”, you’ll just have to bear with me, cause I’m staying around for good. LOL
    God bless you all!!

  6. Julia Winters Says:

Fabulous finish indeed!!! Passion Sydney was amazing!! I attended Passion DC back in February in the U.S. as well and that conference really impacted me. After graduating from the University of Maryland, I decided to do full time student ministry in Melbourne Australia with university students for 2 years! I knew Sydney was the last stop for Passion and so we rallied some students together and got on a plane to be there! God is doing amazing things here in Australia and so I am so glad Passion made its stop here!! I will be praying for God to continue to work and move in this generation here in Oz and around the world!

  7. Leah Says:

Wow! I have been so encouraged throughout this entire process. I am praying the Passion really will begin now, just as Jacoline sd.

Shelley, you’re gonna be blanketed in prayers from all over the world! (Even from those of us who don’t post often.) :) I pray God will provide you all with the rest and restoration you need.

The coffee table book????? (Sign me up now!!!) :) I’m not only a huge fan of Jeremy’s work, but I’ve talked him up to *everyone* I talk to about Passion, its mission, and Who Passion stands for. (And that’s a lot of people!) :D

Thank you all for what you’ve done, for what you’re doing and what you’re gonna do for Jesus Christ’s fame! Many (from all over the globe) have seen your good works and truly glorified the Father in Heaven. (Jesus is too fantastic for words!) :D

    Thank you again!

  9. Nick Says:

What a beautiful journey–certainly a privledge to follow via podcasts and blogs…

Hear the roar of crying generation, hungry for the Spirit of God! Let’s pray together for this movement to flourish and spread, asking God to open our eyes to his unseen workings. Let’s sing of what God has done, and use our lives to glorify Him! Yes Lord–YES Lord, we walk in the way of your truth, for your name and renown are the desires of our souls! We are thankful that it will have everlasting effects.

Give thanks and praise to God—how wonderful this trip has been!

  10. Mike Says:

    Passion Church is coming!!!!!

  11. Fiona Says:

Thanks again for sharing this journey with us and for making us feel part of it all the way. I truly believe that greater things have yet to come in each city and each life that has been touched by God’s grace. It was great hearing GOTC on Scottish radio this morning with Jacoline and Gail.

Praying for Shelley’s speedy recovery and safe travels back to Atlanta. God bless.

  12. Liz Says:

thanks for the great adventure from around the world. God is good.

Am praying for Shelley. Get home safe and enjoy the moldings of your new endever. By the way will this world tour be ever put on dvd? Oh I hope so, for those who were not able to be right then and there to be able to experience this powerful journey.

    continue sharing in His blessings.

  13. Mike Vickers Says:

    Louie,

I am counting down the days to Passion 2010. It will be my first actual Passion Conferences, besides the Vancouver WT stop, and so it will be bittersweet. I am continually praying day for Passion Church and that God will plant the vision in Shelly and your hearts. I pray that God will work remarkably in Shelley on the road to recovery and healing from her back pain.

And finally, I pray that God will give you direction as you plan for the late-Spring 09 WT dates, and if He draws you back here to Vancouver or anywhere in Canada, you will be welcomed with open arms.

Let me tell ya, the minute I get my hands on one of those photo-essay books, I will probably be really emotional, cus I’ve felt so connected with the WT, especially being involved in Vancouver.

I agree with Sarah’s blog post above, a World Tour CD and/or DVD would be incredible. To hear some tunes from around the world in different languages would be mind-blowing.

I love your ending from the blog post, “Never forget, that same Spirit–the One who raised Christ from the dead–is in you, in Christ. Think big. Believe for more. Never settle. We have seen a miracle and been a part of one together. And the best is yet to come.” AMEN!

Indeed, greater things have yet to come!

Get home safe =) Be Blessed!

  14. Darci Says:

    Louie,
I’m so grateful to have been swept up in the current of what God is doing through the Passion movement. I first volunteered in Nashville ‘06, then Atlanta ‘07, then Wash.,D.C. Feb. ‘08. It has been amazing to partner with the World Tour through prayer, the blog, and the podcasts and to watch God display His splendor in majestic ways all along the way! Thank you for your leadership, your faithfulness, and your obedience. I cannot put into words how much you and the Passion movement fortify me in Christ and fan the flame of my passion for His glory. Thank you!

Praying for Shelley’s recovery and your safe return to Atlanta and for all God’s best as the Passion church takes shape over the coming months!! It’s so exciting!

  15. Susan Says:

It has been a privilege to see all of this unfold. At some point in the near future, I will be writing a full entry about how wonderful this has been from my point of view, and I will be sure to let you guys at Passion know when I do that. :)

  16. Mary Says:

Shelley, praying that you have a speedy recovery and are able to return home soon.

It has been an experience watching this WT story unfold….and then to think that it is only the beginning. Greater things are yet to come and greater things are yet to be done!

    Blessings to all!

  17. Sandra R. Says:

Shelley – praying for you as you recuperate and praying that travel home is expeditious in a way that you don’t have much discomfort.

Louie – you always have such a great way with words on these blog posts. I was just pondering the word “awakening” this week, so it’s exciting to hear there will be a book with this title capturing the milestone markers of this amazing journey!
“The wave is growing into a global awakening…”

God bless you both for your service to the Kingdom!

  18. Tammy & Tahlia Says:

We had the best time at Passion Sydney! Still on a high. Chris, David and Christy (and their band members) sounded amazing and led us into wonderful worship!
Louie, Ashley’s story was heart wrenching but needed to be told. It was raw and it was real. Thanks for sharing with us.
We are praying for Shelley’s healing!
    God bless you all.
See you on the next tour!

  19. Sarah Says:

Louie, just wondering if you and Shelley have made it home now? Still praying for healing for her back.

Also wondering if one of the WT stops next year is Melbourne?! :-)

  21. Brian Says:

HALLELUJAH AND AMEN!! Thank you for the encouraging words. God really spoke to me through them more than the other amazing blog updates…I just needed that reality to fall on me: believe in more. “Don’t grow weary of doing good…”

Praise our God, Jesus Christ, and worthy is He, the LAMB that was slain.

  22. Min Park in Seoul Says:

i pray that all of you take gooood rests, and especially Shelly’s back.
our Great God’s marvelous thing is still going on the cities you visited and worshiped, and we’re with HIM.

yeah, we’re not gonna settle but ask for more, more of HIM,
his power, strength, presence, mercy, and kingdom on our cities.

    let us rejoice in HIM.

  23. Aslan's Girl Says:

I’m on the brink of tears right now… what a beautiful, bittersweet moment. And please tell Shelley we are praying for her! She sacrifices so much for all of us, and I pray that she can get the peace and rest she so very much deserves in Oz (it sounds like the perfect place for it). Don’t hurry back- God can take care of everything up here just fine :) . But we miss you and look forward to having you back in the good ol’ US of A. Thank you, once again, for allowing Him to use you as a clear mirror to reflect His Glory!
    Much Love in Christ,
    Christis Joy

  25. Mel in KY Says:

    Prayin’ for Shelley!!

Cannot wait to see more photos from Jeremy!

  26. Lisa Says:

    Hi Louie,
I pray Shelley’s back is feeling better and improving every day, and I hope you guys will be able to come back home soon. Take it easy and get some rest! :)
I also pray for all of you to be strengthened in your spirits and emotions. It seems it can be a bit of an emotional letdown upon returning home from such an awesome endeavor. You get so used to being on a spiritual “high”, a “Holy Spirit adrenaline rush”, giving everything you’ve got until there’s nothing left to give, watching the Lord do absolutely amazing things in people’s lives and knowing you’re a part of it…. and then it’s over. I know I experienced that upon returning home from mission trips I had been on. It’s a hard adjustment to make sometimes, at least it was for me. But I pray the Lord sustains you all with the knowledge of what transpired on this amazing tour, and also with the knowledge that even greater things await you in the future. God is certainly not finished yet!! Anyway, take care and God bless you all!!!

    Love you all…God Bless! :-)

  29. barbie in ch australia Says:

    Hi Louie!

I too am praying for Shelly’s speedy recovery. I wonder if you are still in Aus or on your way home? Not a bad place to rest and recoup if you need too.

I pray the the Lord will cover you with His beautiful presence – both of you. That He will be more real to you in these next days and weeks and months than ever before. And that you will both have a fresh revelation of His love for you as individuals and as the shining couple you are! That He would pour out His Spirit of wisdom and revelation of the Man Christ Jesus into your hearts like never before.

I pray that your love for Him will increase and abound more and more in the days ahead, that the fire will burn brightly in your hearts and bellies for Jesus, His fame, His name, His renown.

The book sounds amazing and I too will be hanging out to see it and give copies away. The DVD will be amazing too, if and when you put it out. Everything from Passion seems to have the favor of God on it, it is His movement and He has picked the right people to head it up – God makes no mistakes. Your love and humility is evident to all Louie and Shelley, and I thank God for you both often.

Thanks once more for making the trip down under, I was so priviledged to be a voluteer and will be at the next Passion world tour here, no matte which city it is in. I love you guys – and yes, we are connected, from every corner of the globe – one heart for the One Great God, Christ Jesus!!!

The best is yet to come in this city (and my city of Coffs Harbour too!!)

    Love Barbie

  30. Anneline from Australia Says:

Hey Passioners and Fruitcakes (I guess the Passion team are fruitcakes too right?)

well anyhow, thanks so much for coming down to Australia last week.
It was great to be a part of 8000 young people and the ~30is volunteers joining forces from around Australia to lift up One person. The only One who matters. JESUS the Christ. The Messiah. The Name above all Names.
How good is it going to be when we all get to heaven? What a day of rejoicing that will be! When we all see Jesus – hey – we’ll sing and shout the victory!
Yes truly Our God is the God who saves. And you know what, His Grace is sure amazing. And is something that I dont think I will ever ever ever comprehend fully. Something that I can never take for granted. Something that sure does change your life around when you “get it” literally and laterally. And something that you can never get tired of hearing or talking about.
Praying for you back Shelley (hahaha I noticed you had black birkenstocks on when I came up to you during the soundcheck because I was lost…and thought “Hey now this lady sure does have real good supportive footwear on there :) ” – but hey presto, you have been around the world a couple of times or maybe more, but God is faithful to heal and restore.

Sorry about the weather though. Honestly there should be a law against foul weather at this time of the year! however that is something not in our control. Next time if you want good weather all the time, drop by the Gold Coast & Brissy where our slogan is “Beautiful one day. Perfect the next”.
And on a spiritual note, that is our prayer for the rest of our fantabulous country of Australia – a nation united together to praise the Saviour of the world.
How Beautiful is that? How perfect is that?
…and to top it off – nothing is impossible for Our God.
    Cheers,
    Anneline

  34. Jenn Says:

    Hey Louie!

Hi, my name is Jenn and I was at PASSION Sydney on Tuesday night. Unfortunately I left a little early, and I just heard on the PASSION podcast what you said at PASSION conference. In your words: “I know that ummm there are probably no podcast listeners down under…” Well guess what. There is! I have been listening since you first started the world tour when I stumbled upon it as I was going through iTunes. I have also referred a few of my friends to it as well. So in response to “there are probably none down under” THERE IS AND WE ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE! ;) LOTI (Laughing On The Inside)

I also just wanted you to know that PASSION Sydney was incredible. I was challenged by your talk (I love how you explained that we had to be CRAZY for God, but also in our right minds so as not to scare our non-Christian friends at first. We can go crazy later once they know us) The worship also really challenged me. I drew deeply into God, in a way that I don’t usually and I felt God speaking to my heart.

Thank you for listening to God’s call, traveling around the world and back, and especially for coming down under, sharing your great message. You and your team are truly glorifying God with you message and you are an inspiration to many. God Bless, and please come back soon.

    Lots of love and blessings,

    Jenn :)

  36. Markus from Pretoria/SA Says:

Hey guys. You probably know this already but it’s good to say and hear it anyway. Passion Jozi was not just an event. Obviously I can’t speak for all 6000 of us who were there, but I can speak for the things I’ve seen and heard in the 2 months since that day. The sense that God is doing something great is not just in the memories of that event, but in the conversations and sermons all over the place, all talking about revival and us being a part of it. It’s amazing to hear that same message from so many different people in SA. Like you said Louie, it’s an interesting time in our country and I feel more privileged than ever to live here. God has given me an opportunity to make a difference in this place. How, I’m not sure yet. But I know that want more of him and want to be like Jesus and just say “Yes Lord”. That was one major thing that I saw happening in me and my friends that day in Jozi, that has not faded. The willingness to just say “yes”. It’s not always easy and I still sometimes negotiate with God about my role in this world, but even so, I will live for my saviour and i will not let anyone distract me from the things he gives me to do. So thank you for being a huge part of what we are experiencing of, with and through Jesus here in SA. You are of course always welcome and loved here.

Shelley, I’m praying for your back and your road to recovery. Thank you for all your hard work in making this world tour possible. I hope that you are still able to enjoy this “break” despite the pain.

(That dog note is pretty hilarious :D )

  37. Celine Wong Says:

Oh no..Shelley.. are you okay?? I hope you’re better now..Hope it wasn’t the food or place that contributed to the pain…

In Jesus’ name, let Shelley’s back pain be GONE!! AMEN! :)

Thank you for all you do. I pray blessings on the Passion team, their families, their future endeavors. I pray that Shelly is fully restored.

Please come to N. California SOON :)

  43. Stephen McBay Says:

Thank you all, that was fun. My favorite part was when the preshow tape in Paris ran an instrumental version of The Verve’s “Lucky Man.” When you’re working in the field it is the little things that mean so, so, so much! Music is important to God, especially at parties; don’t stop now.

Have peace, despite the fact that you come to realize so little is really known. But in persistence and perseverance be sure in the knowledge, partial as it may be for now, that those things you think yet fear to say because they are too wonderful to be known at the moment; they are now becoming real, this is the time so many have longed to see, despite the fact they are disturbed by these times… that’s Biblical.

The answers come as your house is put in order, it’s very syncopated that way. But you got to have it first to give it away and that demands patience. See to it you are right with your neighbor and you will be right with the only God there is. The great fact is that then amazing events will come to pass. Give yourself completely to God, and above all, make room for Him to grow, because change is part of the plan. Let go of the past, confess and be reconciled with your sisters and brothers. Give everything and expect nothing in return.

If you do this we will meet again, just as assuredly as we are together now in the Fellowship. And as you continue in the Spirit ever aware of those who are too easily dismissed, because it is they who Jesus loves most and the ones we fight for with eternal force and prejudice. Walk with purpose as the Lord Himself has already arisen to meet you. Look up as you genuinely believe, you are kept by the only God.

Wow, what a glorious year it has been for all those who have had the privilege of attending Passion Conferences around the world! I was a volunteer in Dallas last year, & am thrilled with what God is doing in this generation! Was wondering if you would you like to have information on a ministry in my hometown that broadcasts Christian programming 24/7 via satellite to tens of millions in the Middle East? They have the capability of translating…. don’t know the best way to contact you, so I’m trying this.Passion World Tour does not have to end yet!!

Just wanted to say thanks to you all involved with the blog and the podcasts. I am not too far from my college years and remember such a buzz about Passion on my campus. Recently, in an effort to listen to an encouraging Word during work, I downloaded some Passion podcasts- starting from 2007. I have been listening, and it is so exciting to hear about things from then to now. I am not done, and thankfully have quite a few more left. I needed this. Thanks for showcasing Jesus!

    Hi Passion team,
So wonderful to read all the comments. Yes what an amazing God we serve and adore. Shelley, as I read about all the people who were praying for you I just felt such a warmth from the Lord and knew that you would be healed. Thank you to all the team for your tireless work for the Lord. Your love and affection for Jesus is beaming from you all, especially you Loiue with your giant smile. I pray Lord’s favor and continued blessing on this ministry and that He will place His seal of love upon your hearts and upon your passion for Him. Really looking forward to the DVD and the coffee table book. A big thank you to Chris – his new ‘hello love’ CD is (in my opinion) his best CD yet. Such beautiful songs from the heart of a man sung to the heart of His God. We are starting to sing some of the songs from this CD at church. Thanks again – much love, Margie – Sydney
