Y-Ike-s!!

First it was Gustav and now Hurricane Ike, with the latter making a near direct hit on Galveston, Houston and the surrounding suburbs–America’s fourth largest metro area.  Millions have been effected as Ike leaves pain and devastation in its wake, and it will be a long time before countless families are back on their feet.  Please choose to fight indifference and Do Something Now to help the people of Texas, Louisiana and beyond.  Click any link and give generously, or click the text option and give to the Red Cross by texting GIVE to 2HELP (24357).  Care. Go. Serve. Give.

Though I have no credit card, I don’t live in America, I can’t give my itty-bitty pesos because we’re too far, and I can’t provide any material things because I don’t know how it would reach the US at record time…

I only have one thing to give… prayers. I will pray for the people affected by Ike and Gustav.

    With a lot of sympathy,
    Chrislyn C. of Manila, Philippines.

    Thanks Louie for posting this-

I live in the Houston area and as you can imagine it’s horrible here. We were lucky enough to finally get power last night but last I heard there are still millions all over the area that don’t have any, and i’ve heard in some areas it might take 3 or 4 weeks!

Please, all who read these posts, continue to pray for the Houston area, life is starting to get back to normal for some people but there is soooo soooo much destruction all over.

Thanks and God bless you all!

Louie, thank you so much for postin this. I’m from Houston and I went 3 days without power….I was miserable. I woke up in the middle of the night because i was too hott ! A lot of my friends still have no power and some have no water.

Hopefully, everything will become “normal” pretty soon =/

  5. Kimmer Says:

I know some people in the Houston area who are fortunate to have power again… but I can see from the reports there must be so many others who will have a long road to recovery. I did not know it was the nation’s 4th largest metro area. Praying for …relief organizations to have the resources to meet the all the needs and the means to effectively distribute them … for local and federal governments to have wisdom… for the power grid to be restored quickly…and for all affected or displaced people to lean in toward God during this time

Thank you Louie for posting a blog such as this. Through you (and the rest of the PASSION team), I am really learning what it means to have “worship & justice” working together. I heard about the news when I was still in Manila and glad to hear from your podcast (and the news) that the damage wasn’t as bad as they thought it would be. It’s great to know that regardless of where we are in the world, there is something we can do to help.

I just listened to the “Vamos Mexico” podcast and like many, I am glad to hear from you again Louie :) Just wanted to thank you as well for sharing with us about Krista (a.k.a. “Fruitcake) & Jeremy. I’ve been to 3 PASSION events now and as beautiful as Ashley’s story gets every time I hear it, I’ve always wanted to know more about Krista as well. To KRISTA, I just want you to know that I’m praying for you (and I’m sure many others as well).

To Louie & the rest of the PASSION team, you guys are in my prayers and I can’t wait to see you guys here in Vancouver!!

Thanks for the reminder Louie! It is so easy to get so involved in our own little world that sometimes we forget that a small donation CAN make a difference.

Praying for my fellow Brother & sisters in the TX area.

Can we also remember the people in Haiti and Cuba through prayer and giving?

  16. Mary Says:

As one of those affected by Ike, my thanks and gratitude for all the prayers sent our way. All things considered, my family feels very, very blessed. But there are still many without power. There has been so much devastation and loss. THe generousity and caring people have shown one another has been great to witness. I’m also thankful for the workers with the power companies who have come from all over the country to help restore the power here.

Financial donation would greatly help them material wise. Their grief and emotional distress though can only be touched and healed by God through our prayers.

  19. David Santos Says:

    Really beautiful posting.

    Have a nice week.

  20. Yannochka Says:

I just want to thank all of you from all over the world, and the rest of the U.S. that are praying for us down here. I means a lot to know that someone who has no idea who you are is praying for you.

Things are slowly coming back together, but many people still are with out power and may still be for a while. A lot of clean up is still needed. About 90% of the schools are still out for perhaps another week. People on Galveston Island, as far as I know, won’t be able to do anything about their homes, or what’s left of them, for a while, and probably the worst of all, the more debris they remove they are finding, well, people who didn’t survive.

    Thanks again for your prayers-
to borrow from Chris’ new song:

“When our hope is hard to find
And our faith is in decline
We need a cause to stand behind – love
We all want the way it feels
Time it comes and time it steals
What remains, what is real – love”

    We WILL rise.

  21. Peter-James Nagel (Jozi) Says:

    Hi Every-one

Yannochka thank you for the link to the photo’s I have to say the one that stood out was the one where the lady was cleaning the yard and on the boarded window was written “Praise God Anyway” pic 46
How awesome is that!!! Halleluja!! Thats the way we all have to live…the trouble times are going to come and the bible tells/warn us against it and gives us plain and simple advice in how to deal with it. I love Romans 12:12 as one example “Rejoice and exult in hope; be steadfast and patient in suffering and tribulation; be constant in prayer. (AMP)”
Tribulation is a given its how we stand in them that will define it to God be all the glory and honour..

I am praying for every-one that has been affected by Ike.
I pray that this will bring forth a stronger faith in God and the body of Christ to Unite and be his hands and feet for the least of these. Its in times like these that we need to let the light of Jesus shine brightest through us.

May we all learn to receive God’s full blessing over our lives and never sway from his way.

    Love you all.

    Peter-James Nagel
